Recently, a new cultural space has opened in Ulsan Jung-gu, and it’s already getting attention.
The place is called Ground30, located in the well-known Hakseong Furniture Street.
For many people in Ulsan, this street has long been associated with clusters of furniture shops.
However, as time passed, the area slowly experienced a decline in foot traffic.
So when I heard about a new urban regeneration project bringing life back to the neighborhood, I was curious enough to visit.
After seeing it in person, I realized this wasn’t just a café or a building—
it actually feels like a space designed to revive the local atmosphere.
A New Energy in the Historic Hakseong Furniture Street
Hakseong Furniture Street dates back to the 1970s, when furniture stores began gathering in this area.
Originally many shops were located in Haksan-dong, but when a large eight-lane road was built, the district was divided.
Many furniture stores moved to what is now Hakseong-dong, forming today’s furniture street.
Up until the early 2000s, the area was extremely lively.
It was said that furniture businesses even came from Busan and Daegu to open stores here because the commercial value was so high.
But times changed.
Today, you can occasionally see empty shops and quieter streets.
That’s why local merchants are hopeful about the new development.
“It feels good to see people visiting again after a long time.”
When I visited Ground30, I could actually see people continuously coming in.
Ulsan Jung-gu Urban Regeneration Space – Ground30
Ground30 is the final project of the Hakseong-dong urban regeneration initiative.
The building itself is larger than expected:
- Basement 1 floor ~ 4 floors above ground
- Total floor area: approx. 845㎡
Interestingly, this building also holds a personal memory for me.
About 20 years ago, it used to operate as a stationery wholesale store.
Back then I would visit almost daily to pick up supplies.
The entire building—from the basement to the top floor—was filled with
pens, school supplies, and stationery goods.
Fast forward to today…
and the same building has transformed into Ground30.

The space I visited today was the 3rd-floor party room.
